Theatre Lighting Hire Services UK were approached by the organisers of Bristol Beach to assist with sound production, Stage Hire and power for the event.
Theatre Lighting Hire Services UK are known as an organisation to assist with local and philanthropic work and, as such, were keen to get involved in this lifestyle improving project.
The Brief
The brief was potentially quite challenging in that the site location was near the centre of Bristol and within the vicinity of residential housing. At the same time, live and pre-recorded music was an important aspect of the event.
Sound
Thee seemingly conflicting aspects of the event were easily tackled by the Theatre Lighting Hire Services UK team in the design of the sound system.
Conventional stage-stacked concert PA would not work as, even at low levels, it would throw sound beyond the site and into the windows of residents.
To conquer this the Theatre Lighting Hire Services UK team designed a distributed sound system to create even sound coverage over the audience area. This was done by flying six Thunder Ridge 218 near-field mid-top loudspeakers off existing architectural features.
This meant that all audience members were closer to a speaker and the overall required sound pressure at sound source was less than if a concert system was used.
Always cautious to ensure a full frequency range is achieved, Theatre Lighting Hire Services UK also used some direct-radiating near-field Thunder Ridge double 12" bass cabs for extended bass response. Due to their direct-radiating design, these boxes do not throw sound as much.
The result of the sound design matched the brief perfectly - good sound level for enjoyment around the entertainment area and nearly no sound spillage over the event borders 20metres away.

In addition to the sound, Theatre Lighting Hire Services UK also supplied a complete DJ setup, basic live music equipment, our outdoor stage system and complete site power for all other providers.
